Salento Cemetery Road Out-and-Back
Salento
Tempo Run·8.5 km·270 m elevation
About this route
Head out on Carrera 5 past the cemetery, where the road starts paved and gradually transitions to packed dirt as the coffee farms take over on either side. The descent is overall quite gentle, but has some steep sections. You'll pass finca after finca with valley views opening up as you drop. At the 5 km mark, turn around and let the return climb do the work. The uphill back into Salento is the real workout: a sustained tempo effort that ends right where the town begins.
Safety
The dirt road section has light vehicle traffic but little to no shoulder. Run facing traffic where possible. Early morning is best — cooler temperatures for the climb back up.
Water & drinks
Small shops along Carrera 5 and near the fincas sell water and refreshments — handy for refueling before the climb back up.
Dogs
Most dogs along this route are behind finca gates. A few are loose but territorial — they'll bark as you pass and lose interest once you're clear of their property. Keep moving and don't engage.
